At Totally Canine, we provide a professional, experienced and trustworthy service to you and your dog.
Dog Training, Walking and Daycare are unregulated services in the UK, apart from the cleanliness requirements of any daycare or home boarding license. Anybody can call themselves a dog professional, such as a trainer, with little or no knowledge and experience, and it can be very difficult sometimes to judge whether or not the service you have chosen has the requisite experience and knowledge to provide the five star care for your dog that you are looking for.
Your dog is a beloved member of your family, and we believe it is essential that you can trust us to be knowledgeable, experienced, professional, and led by qualified people. With this in mind, we ensure that all of our staff are qualified in canine First Aid and CPR, and are all trained in recognising canine body language and signals so that they can recognise the (often subtle) signs that dogs give to show their emotional state. We cover things like stress and arousal markers, so our staff can take appropriate action at the early stages, before a behaviour escalates, as well as other key areas of dog body language.
The team is led by Zoe Axford, who has been training dogs for 40 years. She is a qualified APDT* member, and is also qualified with PDTI*, gaining the instructors award with Merit. She has also competed in Agility Grade A Obedience with her own dogs, as well as dog showing with her own line of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. She is passionate about dog welfare and using non aversive training methods.
When setting up Totally Canine, our driving ethos was to provide a safe and enriching environment for your dog. We spent a long time reviewing other daycare centres around the country, to choose the bits we liked the best, or felt were most effective, and speaking with owners and managers or other daycare centres to take on board any advice they could provide. This culminated in choosing a large unit space, where we provide two indoor play areas, two outdoor play areas, a sensory garden, custom built relaxation pods for quiet times, and lots of interesting things for them to play with, like safe trampolines, pools, agility furniture, and much more. We provide enrichment games for the dogs while they are in daycare, as we believe it's very important for them to use their brains as well as their bodies! We also have a large training room, fully equipped with puppy play pens and custom fence panels for dogs who find new environments challenging, and the unique design of our pods means that for workshops or large classes, we can move the rooms around to provide a much larger training space.
Finally, we have an on-site grooming room, and a small on-site shop, which sells items which are in line with our training ethos, and are often hard to find in large chain stores.
